A fully funded residency for emerging and established UK artists with private studio and accommodation.
The Moritz-Heyman Residency at Pignano near Volterra, Tuscany are open to emerging and established artists from the UK, for whom drawing is part of their practice.
Pignano offers fully funded residencies available throughout the year, lasting between two and three weeks, which include the use of a studio and accommodation on the Borgo Pignano estate. Selection for residencies will be made by a distinguished jury of artists and curators.
Applications are now open to alumni and faculty of the Royal Drawing School only. Applications submissions are open for the session July – December 2017, applications close at 5pm Sunday 5 March 2017. Submitted applications will be assessed by a Jury of six distinguished artists, curators and art collectors in April 2017.
Pignano is a private Tuscan estate with 750 acres of fields, hills, woods, lakes and gardens. It is located between the ancient Etruscan town of Volterra and the walled medieval hill town of San Gimignano, known as "the town of fine towers". The historic cities of Florence and Siena are just over an hour's drive away.
The main Villa of Pignano dates back to the 13th Century and lies in the heart of the estate overlooking the surrounding hillsides.
Pignano is committed to sustainable agriculture and within the estate one can find organic kitchen gardens, livestock, beehives, olive groves and various crops growing in the fields.

Studio, accommodation and lunch on the Borgo Pignano estate will be provided for all visiting resident artists.
During the summer session from March - October one artists will be in residence and be provided with the following:
Accommodation consisting of a working studio/living space with basic cooking facilities within the Pignano Villa. Artists will need to cater for their own breakfast but will be provided with lunch and supper on the estate.
During the summer session from November – February two artists will be in residence and be provided with the following: Self-catering accommodation in one of the Pignano cottages for two artists. Shared studio space in the Pignano Villa, which consists of one painting studio and one dry material studio. Artists will need to provide their own breakfast and supper, they will be provided with lunch on the estate each day.
A taxi will be provided to bring artists to and from the airport upon arrival and departure. The taxi will stop at a supermarket for grocery shopping on your journey to Pignano.
