Jonathan Farr studied sculpture at the Slade in London. Following this he lived in Barcelona and Mexico City, where he worked as an illustrator and children’s book writer whilst continuing to draw from observation and his imagination, exhibiting in Ex Teresa, La Celda, La Muca Roma and La Caja Negra UNAM. More recently he studied on The Drawing Year in 2011, travelled to India for the Royal Drawing School's International Teaching and Art Residency in 2012, and now teaches on the Royal Drawing School's Drawing Clubs and at Drawing School Central. Farr's work was exhibited in the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2010 and the London Raindance Film Festival 2013. He was awarded the Sir Denis Mahon Award 2012-13 by the Royal Drawing School and the Centre for Moving Image Research prize 2014 at the RWA in Bristol for his animation Gold Hat, made for the singer Mary Hampton. Farr's children’s books are published in Mexico, Spain, Switzerland and South American countries. Drawing is at the root of his work as a painter, animator, illustrator and musician.
