Foundation Masterclass for 16 - 19 year olds: Week 2
An intensive summer course for young artists aged 16-19, thinking about heading to art school. This is a unique opportunity to hone skills, build a portfolio, and experience art school first hand.
Visit summer exhibitions at London galleries / Draw the vibrant artistic area of Trinity Buoy Wharf / Use imagination to bring drawings to life / Experiment with painting / Create animations / Explore the Theatre in Drawing/ Fill sketchbooks / Discover mono-printing / Receive portfolio advice
The course focuses on observational drawing, painting, animation and printing with an emphasis on developing students’ skills and abilities and preparing a portfolio for Foundation or Degree application. Individual guidance is given on art school applications, personal statements and portfolio preparation, alongside discussion and group critiques.
Tuition comes from the Royal Drawing School’s distinguished faculty who teach on the Schools Fine Art Foundation course, The Foundation Year. All tutors are practising artists.
The intention of the Foundation Masterclass course is for students to progress from one week to the next, however, students unable to commit to both weeks will be able to book on to either Week 1 or Week 2. The course will run from our studios in Trinity Buoy Wharf, a thriving community of artists and creative industries in Docklands, where The Royal Drawing School also delivers The Foundation Year.
Week 2: Imagination and Animation: Bringing Drawing to Life
This week students will be encouraged to experiment with imagination and animation to bring their drawings to life. Students will draw from the model on the first day before experimenting with hand drawn animations, drawing into theatre design and working in sketchbooks out and about around the area of Trinity Buoy Wharf. The week will culminate in individual advice sessions on art school applications, including portfolio preparation and personal statements.
