Timothy Hyman – The World New Made: Figurative Painting in the Twentieth Century

Timothy Hyman was trained as a Painter at The Slade and was elected RA in 2011. As well as ten London solo shows, he has published widely, including monographs on Bonnard and on Sienese Painting. Both were published by Thames and Hudson, who this October are publishing his new book, available at the lecture, The World New Made. It deals with artists as various as Stanley Spencer (Timothy Hyman curated the Tate Retrospective in 2001) and Bhupen Khakhar (whose Retrospective is currently at Tate Modern – Tim Hyman wrote a pioneering monograph in 1996). The World New Made has been described by Linda Nochlin as 'wonderfully concrete in detail and wide-ranging in scope', and 'constructing a new and convincing scenario for the history of twentieth century painting'.
