Josephine Deighton

Josephine Deighton won an Erasmus scholarship to Romania while studying BA Fine Art at Birmingham City University. On her scholarship she combined rigorous life painting with an interactive art enterprise called ‘Midnight Portrait’. On completion of her BA Josephine was awarded the 2013 Pip Seymour Painting Prize.  Josephine’s experiences of being an art student, artist’s model and life drawing tutor, have raised questions on the contemporary ‘gaze’ and the fluctuating power dynamic of both looking and being looked at. These questions have become essential to what Josephine seeks to answer within her own art practice.
