Ignacio Valdes

Biography

Ignacio Valdes was born in Santiago, Chile (1956), and he graduated from Universidad Católica de Chile in Fine Arts. In 1980 he was given a scholarship from Illa, in Italy. He moved to Piertrasanta, where he worked in sculpture for one year and went on to Rome for another. He moved to Paris to work in painting, spending time in the Beaux Arts, and worked in etching in the SW Hayter Studio. In 1984 he returned to Chile to work and exhibit. In 1988, thanks to a Fulbright scholarship he went to the Pratt institute in New York. In 1990 he represented Chile in the Venice Biennale, and made a solo exhibition in the Illa in Rome. Thanks to the British Council Scholarship he spent a year at the Slade School of Art in London. He has exhibited his works in many one-man exhibitions all over the world, including the Malborough Gallery in Santiago, his representing gallery, as well as IDB bank in Washington, La Fontaine, Centre of Contemporary Art, Bahrain, and Pinacoteca of Pireas, Athens. His works are in many private as well as public collections like PEC, Singapur, IBM, Santiago, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Chile, and Primary Capital Bank, London.
