Lynette Yiadom Boakye
Biography
Lynette Yiadom Boakye’s paintings stare out and engage the viewer with the intense gazes of her subjects. Painting from life, memory and scrapbooks, the characters are often set into nondescript atmospheric backgrounds or landscapes. The subject’s awkward, intriguing stances are balanced by Boakye’s compositional structures. Earlier in the year she had a solo show at Chisenhale Gallery and was in the 2012 New Museum Triennial, New York.
