Digital Studio - Evening | Capturing Light
In this live online life drawing session, students will learn to draw the human figure illuminated by different kinds of light.
Experience a drawing class like no other.
These evening drawing sessions, broadcast live from the Royal Drawing School studios, are an opportunity for students to experience the dynamic and dramatic possibilities of the life room from home. Join students online from across the globe to draw from the model, theatrical sets, dancers, and more, with something new each week. Using a range of drawing practices, our expert tutors will guide you through a series of exercises over the course of each session.
In this two-hour life drawing session, tutor Katy Papineau will guide you through drawing a figure posed in different kinds of light. Using colour materials on coloured paper, you'll explore the qualities of sunlight throughout the day. From the vibrant intensity of midday sun to the soft hues of the evening's golden hour, you'll learn to portray the dynamic and ever-changing light of summer. Drawing inspiration from art and film, we'll illuminate our model in ways that evoke the joy and warmth of summer days. All levels welcome.
Suggested Materials:
- Coloured paper, or paper prepared with coloured grounds (a variety of warm, cool, dark and light colours), using either acrylic paint or gouache. We would recommend using paper between A4 and A2 size.
• Colour materials of your choice: soft pastels, oil pastels, gouache or watercolour (or a combination). Make sure you have a good range of colours.
Please note: The Royal Drawing School online models will not pose nude. Models in this series will be semi clothed.
