Our final Open Day for the 2027 cohort ran on Tuesday, 8 July. We collated some of our top questions from the session below for everyone to benefit from.

Can Online Drawing Development Year students join Digital Studio sessions?

Yes, Online Drawing Development Year students receive free access to drop-in Digital Studio sessions.  

Is there a minimum number of hours per week? 

No, there is no minimum number of hours an Online Drawing Development Year student must take. 

How many students are in each tutor group? 

There is a maximum of 20 students in each tutor group which is a maximum of 60 students in the yearly cohort. 

Do Online Drawing Development Year students work alongside their studies? 

 

Yes, many students work while they study. Students can mix daytime and evening sessions to best their suit their availability. At the start of each term, students will register for 10-weeks of term, which means if working patterns change throughout the year, this can be taken into account as the year progresses. 

 

Applications require a portfolio of work to be submitted from the past 3 years. Why is this? 

 

The School encourages students to display their most current practice, and 3 years is given as a guideline to achieve this. However, if students feel strongly that they have work outside of this period to include, they can do.

Do students get to choose courses before they are open to the public for booking? 

 

Yes, Online Drawing Development Year students will be sent the course list shortly before bookings open to the public to ensure they are allocated a place on courses. 

 

Do one-to-one tutorials and mentoring sessions run like other courses? What is the time commitment? 

 

Mentoring sessions are scheduled for 30 minutes and run twice per term to allow students to benefit from check-ins at the beginning and end of term.

Across the programmes three terms, students will have six mentoring sessions with an additional 2-hours of tutorials with varying members of the School's faculty. 

 

What is the difference between the Online Drawing Development Year and the Drawing Intensive? 

 

As a year long course, the Online Drawing Development Year is designed to foster an online community of artists. therefore, students have core sessions, crits, and occasions that brings students together in tutor groups and as a cohort.

Online Drawing Development Year students also have a mentor that journeys with you throughout the year. 

 

Are there mature students on the course? 

 

Yes, the Online Drawing Development Year attracts a diverse and global cohort who each come with their own career experiences, creative goals, and unique perspectives.

Applications for the Online Drawing Development Year 2027 intake close on Wednesday, 29 July at midnight. 

Applications received after this date will not be considered.

What happens next?

After your application has been submitted, and the application window has closed: 

  • Your application will be reviewed by a panel of practicing artists 
  • You will hear back from the School on the status of your application within one month of submitting your application 

Please note: there is no interview or sketchbook required for the Online Drawing Development Year applications.
