Bess Scarlett Shipside
- Alumni, 2012
Biography
Bess completed The Drawing Year in 2012. She teaches on the Royal Drawing School's Drawing Clubs and works as an artist facilitator for The October Gallery and Victoria and Albert Museum. She also teaches Hatha Yoga in East London. Her drawings and paintings explore notions of contemporary spirituality through familiar yet mysterious historical and exotic ritual objects. Drawing and painting form the basis of her decorative and intense images, which are grounded in museum-based studies and trips to far-away environments. Figurative and patterned elements merge in an almost psychedelic relationship, referencing the interaction of our instinctive and emotional inner being with the ephemeral and constructed outer world.
