Biography
My work has two areas of enquiry: the observed and the invented. Drawing on memory and imagination is a crucial part of my process.
This begins with exploring the strange qualities of the everyday through observational drawing, extracting drama from the mundane.
My invented landscapes start with Pareidolia, the perception of real things through accidental formations of paint I make on canvas with no particular outcome in mind. These marks can suggest scenarios that reveal themselves through painting which pulls between the physicality of the surface and the trickery of illusion.
