Biography
Chengwei Xia was born in 1994 in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Her daily practice integrates drawing, making, and writing, all inspired by her lived experiences. Her works use materials as clues that connect places, times, and communities. She has a strong interest in indigenous knowledge within specific geographical and cultural contexts. Currently, Chengwei is researching the salt field ecosystem and community in Laoshi Village, located in Danzhou, Hainan. She is also collecting and documenting local knowledge related to plants, medicine, and agriculture in her hometown village. Additionally, she explores the relationship between local materials and various forms of drawing and painting.
