Jamiu Agboke is particularly interested in everyday objects, popular culture, dreams and religious iconography. Through the combination, displacement and subversion of these images and motifs, he allows himself to explore and question his relationship with them and their personal and collective memory. This pushes him to unearth new territories and discover semiotics free from cultural boundaries and established perspective. The works that arise have a Dionysian surreal and irrational spirit; they are close and visceral in their handling of texture, colour and light.
