Biography

Macsen Calvert graduated from Falmouth University in 2022 with a BA in Drawing and joined The Drawing Year shortly afterwards. Macsen works mostly in monochrome and creates strikingly dark compositions using a restrained palette. He is inspired by artists in the pop and surrealist movements and uses drawing to explore ideas such as the manipulation of consumer desire, as well as exploring apocalyptic anxieties centred around the ongoing ecological catastrophe.
