Oliver Bedeman

Oliver is a figurative painter whose work blends observation and imagination. A Drawing Year alumnus, he paints in Oxfordshire and was recently shown at the National Portrait Gallery.

Biography

Following a degree in Painting at Brighton University, Oliver graduated from The Drawing Year in 2008, winning the Lady Rothermere Award and a residency at the School. Oliver has had six solo shows and exhibited in numerous prize exhibitions across the UK and Europe, most recently the Herbert Smith Freehills prize at the National Portrait Gallery (2024). He currently paints in his Oxfordshire studio and teaches drawing and painting at various locations. Figurative painting and drawing dominate his work, using both imagination and observation, and he has developed a technique of painting portraits in reverse oil on glass.
