Biography
b. 1991. Aberdeen, Scotland.
Maguire's practice primarily concerns histories and the depictions (or lack thereof) of race and sexuality between Britain, South Asia, and its diaspora. Utilising processes of drawing on a small or miniature scale from archival sources he reconstructs and manipulates his source material working with and against popularly understood conceptions of history proper.
Richard Maguire has exhibited internationally, including Maximillian William, London (2023) and Patron Gallery (2024) with works in a number of notable public and private collections.
He was awarded Edinburgh Art Festival's Early Career Artist Award, The Ingram Prize Founder's Choice Award (2023) & VACMA (2024).
