Biography

Stephanie Forrest is a London-based artist and tutor working across drawing, painting and print. At the core of her practice is a lyrical, painterly exploration of movement and light. With a background in art history, having studied at the Courtauld Institute and University of Edinburgh before attending the Royal Drawing School, her work combines a wide scope of references with an intuitive creative approach. Rhythmic and gestural, her subjects are often immersed in motion or water, where the boundaries of the self are contingent, mutable. Recent works respond to dance as live performance, in the studio and in Poussin’s bacchanals. Her work is in The Royal Collection and she was awarded the ACS Drawing Prize in 2019. She is currently developing her painting at Turps Art School whilst teaching on the Young Artists Programme.
