Lisa Milroy
Biography
Still life is at the heart of Lisa Milroy's paintings. She began her career in the early 1980s with large-scale paintings of ordinary objects isolated in a grid or a scattered against an off-white ground. In the 1990s, Milroy's approach to still life painting shifted and led her to depict objects within settings. Her imagery expanded to include landscapes, architecture and people, and in turn her painting style diversified. Central to Milroy's concerns as a still life painter is the act of painting itself. A major survey of Milroy's work was held at Tate Liverpool in 2001. Milroy is a lecturer and the Head of Graduate Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art.
