Overview
The idea of the figure in the landscape, the encounter between human being and the unbounded space of nature, is seen across the history of European painting. We might think of Poussin’s classical scenarios, Patinir’s Northern hermits, Manet’s lunch on the grass (and Picasso’s riffs on it), Jack Yeats’ stricken figures and Jeffrey Camp’s lovers above the Thames.
Combining the focus of the life room with the unpredictable outside, these sessions will encourage students to investigate scale, gesture, expression, sequence, and narrative, in a variety of responses.
Students will work in both colour and monochrome exploring a range of different drawing media.
Who is it for
Artists, creatives and image-makers of all levels welcome, including beginners.
What’s provided
For our courses being held out and about, you will need to bring your own paper and materials with you. You will be sent a suggested material list before the start of the course.
