Overview

Mythological images can begin with a narrative of the cosmos or a timeless symbol, from the roots of the World Tree to the routes of the Sun and Moon, artists re-imagine them. Circular paper can be the ground for drawing myths of the sky, two facing pages can give the before and after of a myth, paper folded into three can give the three levels of our lives – under, on and above earth.

Working with motifs originating in mythology regarding time, thresholds and journeys, provide an opportunity to discover and construct personal meanings and invented iconographies. Taking inspiration from a different narrative each week, we hope to extract some of the same qualities our ancestors used to bring these stories to life, retold in the present, through the medium of art.
