Overview

This course centres on observational
drawing from plants. In addition to drawing
directly from living plants and herbarium
sheets, historical botanical images will be
part of our visual and material research.
These encounters invite us to consider how
plants have been classified, circulated, and
cared for across time.

This course will look to artists who
approach plants as collaborators and
carriers of knowledge. This includes the
botanical drawings of Ellsworth Kelly, the
seed histories of María Thereza Alves,
visionary plant cosmologies of Hildegard
von Bingen, and the embodied forest
knowledge drawings of Abel Rodríguez.

The course will create space for each
student to develop a personal drawing
practice rooted in ecological awareness,
reflecting on how our own landscapes,
cultural backgrounds, and botanical
memories shape how we see and draw.

Who is it for

Artists, creatives and image-makers of all levels welcome, including beginners.
