Overview

Working with a model we draw close ups, rather than the whole figure. Our focus will be on drawing details, such as a strand of hair tucked behind an ear, or the weight in a pair of crossed legs. Through observing specific moments of touch we will look at the symbolism and narrative potential of different parts of the body. We will work from extracts of poems and sections of paintings, selecting favourite fragments to enrich our drawings. Artists such as Co Westerik and Francesco Clemente will be our guides as we weave figurative images with open meanings.
