Digital Streaming Studio - Evening | Movement and Ink

Experience a drawing class like no other. These evening drawing sessions, broadcast live from the Royal Drawing School studios, are an opportunity for students to experience the dynamic and dramatic possibilities of the life room from home. Join students online from across the globe to draw from the model, theatrical sets, dancers, musicians and more, with something new each week. Using a range of drawing practices, our expert tutors will guide you through a series of exercises over the course of each session.

In this two-hour life drawing session students will explore the challenges and possibilities of drawing the moving form with ink.

Tutor Elizabeth McCarten will introduce expressive drawing approaches and show students how to increase the range and quality of mark making that will help to capture the figure in motion. Students will also start to explore the tension that lies between figurative and abstract work in an experimental and playful approach. All levels welcome.

Suggested Materials:

• Black Drawing ink, Indian ink works well but any ink will do!
• A range of brushes you can explore to use with ink, we suggest a large brush and a couple of other medium or smaller size brushes.
• Other household tools such as wooden BBQ skewers, pen nibs, sponges and a wax candle if you have any.
• Two containers, one for water, one for your ink
• Watercolour paper of your choice
• Kitchen tissue paper to blot
• Something to lean on

Optional

• Other drawing materials such as chalk, charcoal, oil pastels
• Other coloured ink

Please note: The Royal Drawing School online models will not pose nude. Models in this series will be semi clothed.
