Students will explore the drawn image in relation to the birth and death of worlds, encompassing ecology, art history and the recurring cycles of genesis, destruction, and regeneration.
In these times, apocalyptic imagery is everywhere, but so too is an interest in how life came to be, and a desire to birth new worlds above, beyond, and within this one. We will begin by making drawings sparked by creation myths, and exploring the intricate microcosm of lichen, an ancient and tenacious life form. Later in the course, sources including the lost knowledge of civilisations past and the mythical animals who appear at the apocalypse, will provide rich sources of inspiration.
The course will provide plenty of opportunity to learn about how to work with sources such as art history, literature and the live figure, and bring observation and imagination together in artworks.
Please note this course has an emphasis on the use of imagination and memory which can at times elicit difficult feelings for some.

Artists, creatives and image-makers of all levels welcome, including beginners.

For our online courses, you will receive prior to the start of the course access to our Padlet Noticeboard where you will be given course details, material lists and some references, as well as our Padlet Gallery where you will be able to upload and comment on work created during the course.
What to bring
For our online courses, you must provide your own materials. Feel free to use any that you would like to during classes, however other suggestions may be posted on the Padlet noticeboard throughout the course by tutors. This is a suggested list of what may be needed:
