Overview

A five-week etching course, for students who cannot access the week-day classes and who would like a shorter introduction or refresher course.

Each session will focus on a different process starting with drypoint and followed by hardground, soft ground, aquatint and sugarlift. At the end of the five weeks, students will achieve a basic level of competence in etching within our print room. All levels welcome, including beginners.

Our Print Room has limited access and etching involves using hazardous chemicals. The print room environment is not suitable for everyone. Etching classes are unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, those sensitive to chemicals or with breathing difficulties.

A limited number of untutored drop-in places are available for alumni and experienced public students (with a tutor’s recommendation). No booking required – simply turn up and pay on the day. £29 per session (full day only, no half-day option). Places are first come, first served.

Who is it for

Beginners welcome. No experience of etching required if booking full course.

Drop-ins are available for experienced etchers only. No booking required – simply turn up and pay on the day. Places are first come, first served.

What’s provided

For printmaking courses, a fully equipped intaglio print room is provided for students to work with etching, collograph and monoprint. Plates and paper can be bought at just over the cost-price in the print room (card payments only).  On average, most students usually spend between £10 - £20 for a 10 week course.
