Overview

In this course we explore art from cultures all around the world. Through the practice of drawing, one gains insight into artworks made in different places and at different times. We will explore the concepts that lie at the heart of their making and allow them to inspire a development in our own drawing practice.

Formal aspects of line, tone, scale, mark making and movement will be addressed. Each week different themes, artworks and processes will provide a starting point for reflection on art making as a human endeavour, and students will draw from selected images and/or from a clothed model. The opportunity to explore a broad range of approaches to a concept, subject or theme will provide a springboard for you to find your own angle. We will work from a variety of art, from Etruscan Vases to Mexican Ex Votive Paintings.
