Overview

Booking for our Young Artist Holiday Courses will open on Wednesday 3 June at midday.

Through a mix of in and out-of-house classes, Young Artists will document London’s frenetic energy using observational drawing and mark making. The course will culminate with Young Artists painting an outdoor mural charting their journey through the city.

From the cultural heritage of Deptford market to the transient hustle and bustle of London’s City Mile, over the course of a week students will be exposed to the multitudes of crowds that make up a city. Students will explore many topics from psychogeography, crowd psychology, and dance theory which should help them understand the underlying harmony that flows through the veins of a city.

Concluding with a student-led mural project, Young Artists will turn the week’s documentation of the city into a mural inspired by the many wonderful muralists that have left their imprint on London. As a collective, students will collaborate to plan, design and execute a mural project which shines the light on the micro and macro details which have been observed over the week.

This course is for young artists who are interested in capturing scenes of movement through drawing, and how to manipulate material in expressive ways. Students will discover their own unique visual language and be inspired by artists, writers, set designers and musicians who have created works in response to the vibrancy of inner-city life. Students will have the opportunity to work independently and as a group.

Please note during this week students will work out of house and in and around our Notting Dale Campus Studio venue (W11) where the mural will be painted. Full details will be shared in advance.

To attend this course students must have a good level of spoken English.
