Overview

The portfolio is an essential part of degree and career applications in the creative industries—from fine art and graphic design to filmmaking, animation, and architecture. In this course, young artists will receive tailored guidance on art school applications and portfolio preparation that is crafted to the unique requirements of each individual.

Students will collaborate with peers, ask questions, take creative risks, and build confidence in articulating ideas. In doing so, they will develop their creative process and approaches to problem solving and idea generation to build upon in their portfolios.

Students will gain authentic art school experience by experimenting with new media, creative techniques and research skills. They will build their confidence by participating in group discussions and critiques.

Week One

Students will grow their skills in drawing from observation. They will experiment with mark-making from scale and tone to composition and colour. Drawing subjects include an unclothed model, studio sets, and drawing outside.

Students will participate in a guest tutor masterclass to gain experience to gain insights into drawing-adjacent specialisms.

In week one and two students will visit leading London galleries to draw from the collections and installations. They will build art history knowledge and confidence in visual analysis.

Week Two

Students will explore the practice of art and design through concepts such as narrative and context as well as construction and movement as vehicles to push the limits of drawing. Students will receive tailored feedback on art school applications, including portfolio preparation and personal statements.

Students will conclude Week Two by curating and hanging an exhibition of selected works in a sharing session for family and friends.

This course may include at out of house trip in Zones 1 or 2. A full schedule will be provided in advance. To attend this course students must have a good level of spoken English. Please note we do not take group bookings for our courses.
