Danny Markey in-conversation with William Feaver
Born in Falmouth, Cornwall, 1965, Markey studied at Falmouth School of Art and at Camberwell School of Art, London. He has had regular solo exhibitions at the Redfern Gallery, London, since 1992, and a retrospective of his work was staged at the Old Jail Art Center in Albany, Texas, in 1997. He has won prizes in various open exhibitions, including Discerning Eye (2011); Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize (2013, 2015); the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition (2009, 2014); and was also selected for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2012. In 2016 his work featured in Towards Night, a comprehensive survey show at Towner Gallery, Eastbourne. His solo exhibition at the Redfern, of nocturnes spanning three decades, was ‘Critics’ choice’ in the Financial Times.
