A drawing looks back and tells you who you are Timothy Hyman RA in Focus

Timothy Hyman’s legacy spans his roles as an artist, teacher, writer, and curator. His influence is deeply felt by alumni of the Royal Drawing School. Many artists share his belief that art—and drawing in particular—is a way of responding to the world around us. He saw drawing as a fundamental way of being, living by Apelles’ maxim: ‘no day without a line.’

Drawing is a record of identity—it looks back at you and tells you who you are. The long and the short of it is, drawing is linear, and line is essential to composing narrative."
