Drawing Beyond the Classroom Young Artists at Waddesdon Manor

How can the Royal Drawing School’s approach to drawing enrich learning in schools? This film follows tutors from the Royal Drawing School’s Young Artists programme at Waddesdon Manor as they work with Art & Design students from Waddesdon Church of England School.

Students had the opportunity to draw from the expansive grounds of Waddesdon Manor, with its grand architecture and aviary filled with exotic birds providing inspiration and sparking their imagination. Led by the Young Artists tutors, students explored new ways of seeing through close observation and playful drawing prompts. Hear from tutors and students about how working outdoors encouraged closer looking and greater confidence in making marks, and how these approaches can complement classroom learning.

“That's the great thing about the Drawing School. It pushes you to not be afraid of a bad drawing. And I think that's a great thing to teach young people and it's a great thing to take from them.”
