Useful Information
The following information about travel and supplies may be of use to those artists who have been offered a residency:
Suggested materials/things to bring:
- In the winter it is very cold! Be sure to bring long johns and suitable warm clothing/outdoor wear
- In the summer there are lots of midges so bring insect repellent, sun lotion, waterproofs and warm clothes as the weather is changeable.
- Travel easel
- Umbrella
- Wellies / boots
- Torch - it's dark walking back from the studios at night
- If you won’t be driving - lots of food as there aren't any shops nearby (Cumnock is a 40 minute walk away)
The studios each provide:
- Easels
- Trestle tables
- Kitchens with fridge
- Kettle
- Wi-fi
- Excellent views
- Portable Daylight Lamps
- Drawing boards.
Supplies
There are no shops within walking distance of the Dumfries estate, however the village of Cumnock is a five minute drive away and has a small supermarket as well as a post office and small hardware store. The nearest large supermarket and hardware store is in Ayr, a 25 minute drive away. The nearest art shop is in Ayr or Glasgow so we suggest that you bring all the art materials that you think you might need with you.
