Overview
It may also be useful for animators with some experience who would like to work within the support, structure and energy of weekly group sessions or even breathe new life into a project that has become stuck. Students can choose to make an animation for a documentary, as accompaniment to poetry, music, a story, conversation or a silent animation. Work can be figurative or abstract and range from flipbook drawings to praxinoscopes, sand on glass to collage, or any other material to be found that can be animated.
Teaching will principally involve mentoring and accompanying each student during the ten-week development of their animation, and will include demonstrations of techniques and materials, regular group discussion and viewing of each other’s work in process and of many relevant inspirational animators past and present. We will explore together the effects and aspects of this fascinating medium and how there are myriad of ways in which hand drawn stop frame animation can create a captivating experience for the viewer.
Please note this course is for experienced animators and those who have taken The Moving Image 1.
