Overview

Each person has a different way of seeing, as well as thinking. While drawing another person, do we always in some way draw ourselves? Do you project on to the model? Or do you try and decipher who they are, by drinking in the nuances of their individuality? Do you see the moles and loose hairs, are you pursuing a likeness? Or do you see an emotion, an aura, a form or even just a colour? Are all these ultimately the same thing?

The human head, the human face, with all its wonderful variety, is a perpetual source of fascination. As our primary source of perception as well as expression, it is bound in numerous, complex nuances. There are many rich layers to our understanding to explore through drawing: the artistic, the cultural, the religious, the psychological, the mythological and many more.
