Overview
Young artists will collaboratively create a large scale installation to use as a backdrop for their clothed model and still life sets. After creating an immersive world, students will draw from set props they designed (such as hats and jewellery) and characters.
Students will take inspiration from artists, set designers and film makers such as Paula Rego, David Hockney, and Kiki Smith—to name a few. They will also consider the worlds of Kabuki Theare performances like the Miyako Odori and films such Spirited Away.
Additionally, the course will consider urban spaces and natural environments. This will give students a chance to reflect on how human-made spaces relate to nature and encourage them to think about how to bring those contrasts to life through art.
The course objective is to give students the confidence to blend observational drawing with imaginative drawing in their work. In doing so, young artists will improve their drawing skills whilst also nurturing creativity, storytelling, and an ability to transform ideas into physical spaces. Students will have the opportunity to work independently and as a group.
This course may include an out of house trip in Zones 1 or 2. A full schedule will be provided in advance. To attend this course students must have a good level of spoken English. Please note we do not take group bookings for our courses.
