Walking in a Winter Wonderland
During this one-day course students will look at how artists throughout history have used winter landscapes to explore various themes, ideas and as a means of exploring their inner worlds.
Using paintings such as Bruegel’s ‘The Hunters in the Snow’ and Peter Doig’s ‘Ski Jacket’ as inspiration, for the first half of the day students will make small clay figures engaged in wintery activities.
In the afternoon, the students will arrange their clay figures against a large winter landscape backdrop, creating their own winter wonderland to draw from. While drawing from this winter scene, the young artists will take inspiration from artists such as Poussin, Munch, Friedrich, and Boberg.
This course will offer the students an exciting opportunity to use historical artworks as inspiration for their own creations, gaining a greater understanding of the symbolism relating to winter in art history. They will also explore the use of sculptures in storytelling and as references when creating drawings.
