During this one-day course students will draw from observation and imagination to create their own winter wonderland full of mysterious woodland spirits and mythical creatures; sprites, nymphs, ogres, faeries and beasts.
Using winter folklore, storytelling, and poetry as references, students will first bring their creatures to life on the page. In the afternoon, taking inspiration from shadow puppetry and the magic of the silhouette, students will transform their drawings into freestanding life size paper creatures, creating an enchanted landscape for a model to pose in.
Through imaginative drawing, clothed life-model studies and playful experiments with mixed media, students will explore gesture, movement and expressive mark making as they bring their extraordinary creatures to life in the studio.
Together students will build a strange and shifting winter world, where drawings move beyond the page and observation becomes the starting point for invention.

10–15-year-olds with a passion for drawing and a desire to develop their skills.
