Overview

During this one-day course students will look at how artists throughout history have used winter landscapes to explore various themes, ideas, and as a catalyst for exploring their inner worlds.

Young Artists will make small clay figures engaged in winter activities, taking inspiration from  paintings such as Bruegel’s The Hunters in the Snow and Doig’s Ski Jacket.

Students will then arrange their clay figures in imagined winter landscapes to draw from.  In their drawing process, Young Artists will take inspirations from artists such as Poussin, Munch, Friedrich, and Boberg.

This course will offer Young Artists an exciting opportunity to explore interpreting historical artworks as inspiration to create their own contemporary works, to gain a greater understanding of  winter’s symbolism in art and to understand how artists can create sculptures to use as references for their drawings and storytelling.
