Winter through the windows (Aged 10–15)

During this one-day course, students will draw from observation and imagination to create imaginative winter landscapes inspired by artists that play with scale, format and perspective.  

Referencing the landscape works of Jeffrey Camp, Pierre Bonnard, Charles Burchfield and Goya, students will explore how to depict contrasting elements such as the cosy warmth of the studio with a cold wintery day outside, using windows as a framing device. Students will explore how they can use framing devices to challenge their perspective and create new ways of making landscape images. 

The class will bring together a wide variety of techniques encouraging the use of collage, colour, nature and storytelling. Students will have the opportunity to draw from still life and a clothed model to help them develop their winter landscapes and imaginative narratives. 

The day will culminate in students making their own playful, large scale, winter season inspired concertina book to take home.
