Overview

Autumn Term courses will open for booking on Wednesday 29 July at midday.

Visiting galleries and engaging with art made by others is an integral part of the artistic experience.

This course will support students in developing their artistic voice, technical abilities and observation skills by drawing from artworks on display in the National Gallery. Each session is designed to challenge and inspire and build creative confidence.

Students will explore topics such as portraiture, landscape, colour, architecture and mythology and engage with the stories of the works.

Each week Tutors will guide students through a wide range of drawing exercises, offering support as students experiment with line, tone, shape, perspective and colour.

Alongside technical skills, students will develop critical thinking, problem solving, and collaborative abilities – all of which are key components to a confident and curious art practice.

During the term students will develop a strong portfolio of work and a regular sketchbook practse.

For the duration of this course, young artists will draw from observation in public galleries and on occasion, work outside or in the local vicinity.

Who is it for

Students aged 15 – 18 (in school years 10 – 13) who have a passion for drawing and a desire to improve their skills.
