Overview
Booking for our Young Artist Holiday Courses will open on Wednesday 3 June at midday.
Have you ever wanted to step inside a carnival?
In this course, Young Artists will explore the power of costume, tradition, and myth, to inspire their own drawing and storytelling. Students will investigate colour, texture, and mark-making to depict the energy and vibrancy of these legendary celebrations.
Inspired by artists such as Alberta Whittle, Alvaro Barrington, Maruja Mallo and more, who celebrate the power of ritual and storytelling. Students will also explore historical depictions of dance and festivities as inspirations for their own creations.
Students will use observation and their imaginations to bring the carnival into the studio. They will have the opportunity to draw outside to capture the colours of carnival from the landscape and from models clothed in carnival attire in the studio. They will experiment with a range of materials, including printmaking and crafting.
The course will balance working solo, in pairs and in groups, and will culminate in a collaborative presentation where students will create their own parade of wearable carnival accessories and large-scale paper floats.
To attend this course students must have a good level of spoken English.
Please note we do not take group bookings for our courses.
