Overview

Booking for our Young Artist Holiday Courses will open on Wednesday 3 June at midday.

During this course, students will explore different approaches to composition, image making and storytelling. Inspired by Western painting and drawing, Eastern approaches to storytelling, and traditional Chinese handscroll paintings, Young Artists will learn how to create movement, atmosphere and emotion within their own drawings.

Students will investigate mark making through the work of Impressionist painters, such as Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne, and explore how gesture, colour and brushstroke can communicate sensation and atmosphere. Through monoprinting, collage, rubbing and mixed-media experimentation, students will build their own visual language and develop personal interpretations of landscape and environment.

Students will have the opportunity to draw in the studio and outdoors as well as work collaboratively with their peers. The collaborative drawing activities will invite students to respond emotionally and imaginatively to places, weather, textures and environments.

At the end of the course students will have produced their own concertina book inspired by the week's sessions, and a final collaborative large-scale artwork that will bring together their individual responses into a shared landscape experience.

The course aims to encourage curiosity, experimentation and collaborative thinking, helping students become more open to exploring the world around them through multiple senses and perspectives.

To attend this course students must have a good level of spoken English.

Please note we do not take group bookings for our courses.

This course may include out of house trip in zones 1 or 2. A full schedule will be provided in advance.
