Overview
This course includes a blend of in-house and out of house days. Out of house, young artists will document London’s frenetic energy through observational drawing and mark making.
Students will explore cityscapes such as Deptford Market and London’s City Mile. Over the week, students will capture the multitudes of different crowds that make up a city and explore concepts such as psychogeography and dance theory to investigate the underlying harmony that flows through the veins of a city and how this is translated into drawings.
Informed by what they learn over the week, students will create a German Expressionist theatre set as a group. Students will then collaborate with a model to incorporate the inspiration they collected out of house such as movements, sounds, and imagery to bring London to life in the studio.
This course is for young artists who are interested in capturing scenes of movement through drawing, and how to manipulate material in expressive ways. Students will discover their own unique visual language and be inspired by artists, writers, set-designers and musicians who have created works in response to the vibrancy of inner-city life. Students will have the opportunity to work independently and as a group.
Please note, this course will include out-of-house trips in Zones 1 or 2. A full schedule will be provided in advance. To attend this course students must have a good level of spoken English. Unfortunately we do not take group bookings for our courses.
