Overview
The Victoria and Albert Museum's excellence in design and craftsmanship provides the basis for this course. The museum offers inspiring, recurring themes of portraiture, nature and the animal world in a variety of materials, from tapestry to stained glass.
Drawing in the V&A, students will gain a deep understanding of approaches to drawing, pattern and colour, as well as image making across the globe. We will consider how these designs are rooted in a response to nature. Art historical context will also be provided in an accessible manner.
In the studio, students will draw from a clothed model and other sources of inspiration such as animals and plants, which will culminate in a final piece to take home. This will incorporate drawn and sculptural elements from paper, card, and other materials. Each student will be given personal guidance in developing their final piece and will be encouraged to follow what inspired them most during the course.
Please note, this course includes out-of-house trips in Zone 1 and 2. Students will draw in the Victoria & Albert Museum for two days, and in our Shoreditch Studios for three. A full schedule will be provided in advance.
To attend this course, students must have a good level of spoken English. Please note we do not take group bookings for our courses.
